When I was 20, I thought I wanted to be a farmer.
I took a year off from college with my boyfriend, Ben,
and went to homestead and farm on the northeast tip of Maine in a town of
300 called Whiting. It was an amazing year of learning and growth, and although I knew that I didn’t have the stamina that full-time farming required, I carry the seeds of that experience in my life to this day. Now our 18 year old daughter is off for a year of traveling the world, working on organic farms!
I was thrilled to see Tide Mill Farms, and the Bell family whose father, Alton, we worked for, featured in this little film on the Farmer’s Almanac. The 8th generation was just being born when I was there, now they are raising the 9th. amazing people…beautiful place: http://www.farmersalmanac.com/video/featured-stories/tide-mill-farms
